2017 Leaf Collection in Alexandria, VA

Fall ‘leaf peeping’ is not going to be very exciting this year because of warm temperatures and a lack of moisture, but the leaves will still fall and they will still need to be picked up.

Lucky for us the City of Alexandria has just posted its 2017 Leaf Collection schedule. Residents who receive City trash collection services will get three passes during the season.

The first dates are set and then signs will be posted for the earliest dates of the second and third passes.  Make sure you know what zone you are in!

Here are a couple of ways to prepare:

rake leaves out the day before
pile leaves at the street curb
remove debris like stones, litter, and branches to avoid injuring workers and damaging equipment
avoid storm drains or water meter covers
moved parked cars away from leaf piles

FYI – it may be convenient to have an alley way but the City will NOT pick up loose leaves or leaf bags from alleys or service roads.

Want to use biodegradable paper bags? Free bags are available on a first come, first serve basis while supplies last. Limit 15 per resident. Bags will be available starting October 23 at a number of locations.

Happy raking!
